This is one of the least known and understood of all our local dragons. Its nearest relative, the Atlantic Beach Dragon (D. atlanticus), inhabits coastal areas from Nova Scotia to Cuba. Like our own little "beachy", it is shy and seldom seen. Now and then the body of a deceased D. atlanticus is found, and is ussually mitaken for a seahorse!
Dragons of the genus Dracellina are all ground dwellers. Though they are strong fliers, their wings have the appearance of great delicacy due to their thinness. They are able to fold their wings very closely to their bodies, enabling them to fit into tight spaces such as the inside of a shell.
