A Field Guide to the Dragons of Door County

This work is not intended to be definitive. The author merely wishes to provide a brief guide to identification of some of the commonest species. Such a convenient, easy-to-use non-technical guide for the average observer has not, to my knowledge, so far been available. It is hoped that future editions will be more complete, though at times the subject seems inexhaustable. There are few subjects more elusive and difficult to observe. One of the greatest problems has been obtaining photographs, or even reasonably accurate artist's renderings of the few species covered in the present volume.

Door county covers the peninsula that juts out into Lake MIchigan like the thumb of Wisconsin. It was carved out of solid rock by glaciers, which left many interesting scenic landscape features (see Ridges Sanctuary on links page). Though it is in a fair way to be destroyed by overpopullution and overdevelopment, there are still areas of rare beauty, and, if you listen veryclosely at night, you can hear the dragons breathing.
